At Franklin International, workers often skipped routine healthcare, and many didn't have a primary care physician. The company's employees skew heavily male and many times did not understand what doctors they could go to as part of their benefits plan.
The organization worried that not providing employees with clear direction on their health benefits would ultimately lead to "paralysis by analysis," meaning workers would ultimately forgo needed care or visit the emergency room rather than a primary care physician. "What we were really looking for was a solution that would help the employees who didn't have a primary care doctor, to get them in for preventive care prior to things becoming critical illnesses," Doug Reyes, Manager of Compensation and Benefits, says.
Franklin International initially considered building an onsite employee health center, but with hundreds of workers spread over three shifts, the model didn't make sense from an affordability or utilization standpoint.
Franklin joined the Marathon Health Network instead, which provides employees and their families with access to comprehensive primary care services via an existing Network of three health centers around the Columbus, Ohio, metro area.
